Stained Glass Windows: Art & Beauty

Sister Marie Teresita Kim, SND is a renowned artist who has designed numerous stained-glass windows and other pieces of liturgical art for churches and convents in Europe and South Korea. She studied art in Seoul. She also studied in Germany at the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste in Munich where she earned a teacher’s diploma and a master’s degree in fine arts.
In 2007, Sister Teresita came to the United States twice. First in April, working on the initial stages of designing the stained glass windows that will grace our chapel here in Covington and collaborating with the staff of Conrad Schmitt Studios in Wisconsin. Her second trip, from late November to early December, involved the actual painting of details on key pieces of stained glass. Her aunt, our own Sister Mary Magdalen, accompanied her on both trips to Wisconsin, acting as interpreter during the first trip in spring and, this past winter, actually assisting Sister Teresita by cleaning each piece of glass prior to the painting and the firing stages of crafting the stained glass windows.
